As it is Second Hand September I'm making a conscious effort to donate unwanted items as well as shop second hand and I would encourage anyone to do the same. There are loads of options out there, most charities have an online shop where you can find all sorts of pre-loved pieces as well as all social sites, vintage stores and online marketplaces. However if you're not sure where to start, the thought of shopping second hand can be overwhelming.
If you're heading out for a day of shopping then it's a good idea to stay open minded, see if anything catches your eye. However shopping online, I would suggest have an idea of some things you might want to look out for, unless you have hours to search second hand sites. Classic pieces are often easy to find such as a trench coat or a blazer, you may not find the right one straight away but be patient and keep looking. I always like to shop for blouses and shirts and more often than not you'll find vintage pieces that are just as similar to current high street versions. If you're not sure about shopping for pre-loved clothing then start small. Accessories, bags and jewellery are an easy way to freshen up everyday looks, things like vintage chains and rings are a great way to add interest to your look. Also a statement pair of vintage earrings will elevate jeans and a tee for a smarter look. Try shopping vintage and pre-loved and discover a world of options for your wardrobe.
